I've got an old Baxi combi boiler - would I be better to "refurbish it" or buy a new one?

The Instants were not as good as the non instant but was still a decent boilere , and perfectly serviceable

They were a pile of junk...no other manufacturer thought it a good idea to use the expansion vessel as a thermal store...every one I come across has multiple issues.
It's getting on for 20 years old, similar "non instant" Baxis might be worth keeping but certainly not that model...bin in.

I'll double check to find out if it's a model Instant or just a 105e

There's no equivalent boiler to the Instant...no one's so dumb to come up with such a stupid idea.
A 105E is a simple boiler and may be worth hanging on to...
Over on the closed gas forum many installers are going for these...

Baxi/Potterton/Main are the same boiler group and these models are essentially identical inside but with different front panels and warranty lenghts.
They are dead simple to work on, easy parts availability and sensible parts prices when I last looked.

Main Eco Compact 25 or 30kW (5 year warranty AFAIR)
Baxi 624 or 630 or 636 (7 year warranty AFAIR)
Baxi 825 or 830 or 836 (10 year warranty AFAIR)

You'll find you just pay extra over the basic boiler price for the longer warranty but without a quality install and proper yearly servicing warranties are often voided.
