I have old fashioned filament bulbs in my bedrooms ,halls and corridors etc

The fittings are for bayonets.

Recently I bought some Maxim 6Watt=40Watt bulbs with bayonet attachments and am quite pleased.

But can I find something along the same lines that is not so bright? Maybe softer?

With bayonet would be ideal .Or do I have to change some of my fitting to screw in?

Is that any sort of an issue?

You don't mention colour temperature of the Maxim lamps you bought, maybe they are cool white 4000k or "daylight" circa 6000k? You want warm white 2700 or 3000k lamps to get a similar colour to the old GLS lamps. If it's purely that they're too bright, get a lower wattage, maybe a 25w equivalent?

Look for warm white. It’s a kinder light and closer to the old filament light bulb.

You can get various “wattages” but the lamps are now quoted in lumens. That will give you a better idea of actual comparative light output.
