CCTV NVR network camera capabilities.

Currently looking at a proper POE 5/8k CCTV solution for the house.

I already have some structured cat6 cabling in place around the house, and POE capable network switches (unifi) so it would make sense to utilize these where possible to simplify the cabling (if its a workable solution)

One thing that I cant find out, do NVR's have any restriction on number of cameras that they can use over their network port rather than directly connected? Ive only seen a random post about a Reolink NVR that don't recommend more than 3 cameras.

Is there documentation or a general rule for this kind of thing?

The answer to the question its about the bandwidth incoming to the NVR.

so the more cameras the more bandwidth, however you can on ip cameras use compression at the camera end and reduce the incoming bandwidth, alomg with reducing frame rates etc and quality of image.

5/8MP ? not 5 to 8K?

so for example 2 x 6MP, 3 x4MP, 1 x 2MP and a 3MP door bell running without compression and at there full frame rates and quality run around 79 Mbps

This means running on an 8Channel NVR with 80Mpbs the suggested system needs a compromise to allow for fluctuations it is possible to get such a system down to around 60Mbps without losing too much that you would notice.

its a recent example and customer had the choice when adding the cameras on what they wanted to do the opted for a bigger NVR allowing 160Mbps rather than reduce anything.

you can use compression like 264,265 and there plus versions.

I installed a system with 8 cameras, but I had to specify a 16 camera NVR to use all the cameras at full speed, even with compression.
