Hi All,
We have had a 210L Megaflo indirect cylinder. for around 2 years now. About 3 months ago we had a slab leak occur where a HW pipe sprung a leak and we were losing a lot of water into the concrete and coming up through the walls. I narrowed it down to a HW water pipe using our water meter and shutting off different valves. Worked out we were losing 1L every hour! Anyway, that's been isolated now and we're just waiting for it to dry.
However, as I've become rather paranoid I have been checking the meter before work and when I get home 8 hours later.
If I shut off the mains valve to the Megaflo (which is upstairs) then only the ground floor has mains water. I get no water usage over 8 hours.
If I open the mains to the megaflo but shut off the HW valve coming out then I get water usage of about 1L over 8 hours. The megaflo cold only powers upstairs utilities. The loos are not leaking and have checked the ceiling for CW leaks and nothing. The tundish is dry so none dripping out.
Could it be that as we have hot water on for an hour in the morning before work this expands in volume. Then throughout the day as the water in the Megaflo cools, the hot water volume decreases, and allows more cold water off the mains into it?

Certainly plausible, tho' it would be the expansion air bubble contracting rather than the water itself.

What happens if you repeat the test but first running off all the hot water i.e. until the water at the hot taps comes through cold?
