Hi.

I have an Armitage Shanks Toilet Cistern 17501-2.

It was leaking from where it is joined to the Syphon (Armitage Shanks syphon).

Called a 'Plumber'. He unscrewed the nut. Pulled it down, and used PTFE tape. £160 for about 20 minutes work. Its leaking again.

I can do it, but I want to avoid removing the cistern. So, I consider two other choices.

1. Unscrew the nut, clean the area, and use Plumber's Mait, screw up the nut.

2. Cut off the existing rigid pipe and fit a flexible flush pipe. Only point I concerned about is getting the correct diameter.

Any ideas, please?. Thank you.

If it's a standard low level and it's leaking at the nut where the flush pipe fits into the syphon then that's usually just a 50p conical seal that needs looked at.

Thank you all. He is indeed a rip off merchant. I could have done it myself, just remove the cistern. But I was quite busy elsewhere.

Did it myself. Wanted more money, so with all the evidence, I am going to try and get him some real nice publicity. If the newspapers will accept it.
