Hello guys.

I am having a garage built, but it is now well over budget.

The only place I see where I can cut costs is in doing the floor, or most of it, myself.

I have enough hardcore. Here I have attached photos of the damp course, and seek some guidance of how to set about doing the floor.

All advice is thankfully welcomed.

Why has it gone over budget? Were the additional costs justified and valid, or just what the builder has claimed. Were drawings or specifications provided and kept to?

Basically, can you claim money back from the builders or designer?

Covid19 had an impact.

They were supposed to do other work but I sent them packing.

So, I had someone to finish off.

I will now do a clean up.

That is why I asked info for doing the concrete floor.

Thank you all.

Well, you want at least 150mm of compacted hardcore and 100mm of concrete. The depth of hardcore will depend on how good the existing ground is once you scrape off top soil.

Work out your finished floor height and excavate to he required depth.

There is no need for a DPM, but that may be a subjective opinion as to whether you want to fit one. If so, allow for 15mm of blinding sand. No need for any reinforcement either.
