What is this brick?

Hello. I've hopefully attached a picture of a brick, I wonder if anyone knows what it is. At college back in the day I think they had a few similar which they called silica. But Im not sure.
It has a bit chipped off to reveal its guts, (incase you couldn't understand it's shape).

Thanks for your comments gents. They all make sense. Silicate might be what similar ones were called when I was at college and I googled fire bricks and they look like these, although they are currently a garage. And they are probably about 20 miles from MIdhurst.
