Motorised valve clicking

Hello,

I’ve had fun and games with my heating system this year (bought the house in June). I recently replaced the CH pump.
Now I have a motorised valve that is clicking when the hot water is on. I knew something was wrong because the CH was coming on when it should just be the HW.

Is it an electrics problem? When I’ve wired in the Grundfos pump? I have inadvertently disconnected something?

is there anything I can try?

Just whilst I’m asking questions what is the red gate valve for? Is it a bypass pipe? when I replaced the CH pump I wasn’t sure if the is valve was open or closed. I think it’s open now.

The clicking normally means the valve head is at the end of its useful life, the valve head is removable without draining down , the red thing is indeed a bypass but you have a 3 port valve and unless you have trvs on every rad I would leave it shut.

Check that the HW off wire is still connected, if it isnt the valve will constantly click

I tried the HW off wire which did look a little loose but no luck. I have popped down to screw fix and installed a new motorised head. All working now by the looks of it.
I’ve even bought a new Honeywell wiring centre whilst I was there to sort out a right jumble of wires at some point!

just to confirm you think the red gate valve should be closed? I’ve got TRVs on most of the rads.

Yes leave the gate valve shut, as long as there is a path for water to circulate round the boiler ie rad/s without trvs and rad valves are open it wont make any difference if the bypass is shut.
