Hi,

my neighbour has leant a number of old paving slabs against the external wall of my property. I believed that this was only temporary but it has now been a few weeks.

Will this cause damp issues? The picture isn't the best but you should be able to see them beyond the bins.

Needless to say that this neighbour has already caused me a number of issues as the picture should show. So we aren't exactly on the best terms.

Thanks for any advice

No, if anything it's going to prevent water getting to your wall. Penetrating damp is less of an issue on cavity walls unless the outer leaf becomes saturated to such an extent that the cavity starts to fill with water...which would require soil directly against the wall for a good height above the DPC and for a long period of time.

Doesn't mean, however, that he has the right to lean slabs against your property - is the gravelled area yours or his?

Thanks for the reply at least I have that piece of mind. The gravelled area is half mine to give access to the meter cupboards. The area with the slabs is theirs but they will be getting moved. As you can see from the picture they saw no issue with storing their bins right next to my meter cupboards, before that they totally blocked them with a pallet of blocks and other building materials for their extension... Needless to say they were informed that it wasn't their land and it wasn't to happen again. Don't you just love neighbours sometimes...
