Carpet tiles for new loft, underlay required?

Hi all,

Just had a mini loft conversion and I'm looking at installing carpet tiles due to many truss in the way. My question is do I need underlay when installing carpet tiles? I'm currently looking at carpet tiles, getting samples and there are so many choices out there.

Is there any underlay that I can use to reduce sound/noise as I'll be using the room as a home office. Worst case I can just install (cut/stick) the carpet tiles as it is onto the wooden boards but checking if theres an alternative. I asked carpet right for a quote for normal carpet, the manager looked at the picture and laughed, I walked out soon after.

I have 2 weeks before I can install them because the room will be plastered/painted in a weeks time. The picture attached is a bad angle but theres plenty of space in the middle for a table/chair and the sides/back will be for storage.

Any advice/suggestions/products/links will be highly appreciated!

No you don’t use underlay with carpet tiles.
You could glue Regupol multi under the carpet tiles to help with the noise

I’m not surprised. How could anyone lay a normal carpet in there without butchering it or cutting it into....tiles? I have carpet tiles in my office at work and they are just laid on a concrete floor, not even stuck down.

Carpet Tiles won't need underlay.

Fitted carpet in that space is possible and would be warm and insulating. Couple of ways of doing it but companies like Carpet Right won't be at all interested.

Speak to a local independent flooring shop, you'll get better prices and advice and probably not laughed at wether you discuss carpet or tiles.

If looking at fitted carpet, maybe ask about installing on a System10 underlay/fitting system, that would make life alot simpler regarding gripper and seaming and be very practical regarding office chairs and wear etc.

Perfectly possible, just need to approach a company that cares about their installation services.
