I have ben told by a garage (croxdales) that the exhaust section from manifold to the cat is blowing and needs replacing at £600 plus fitting.
I've been told that a specialist exhaust place could fix it for about £100. A place in Shiremoor, 20 miles from me the exhaust doctor, or a place in Darlington. 30 odd miles away
Would kwikfit or another garage be a better option?

That sounds one hell of a price for a short length of pipe......manifold to the cat, I think?
I’d check out what you need from a motor factor - maybe a Klarius one - and then find an independant garage to fit it ( Not Kwik Fit).
A genuine Ford item will be pricey, but surely not that pricey!
As far as I know its only two bolts on each end of the flexy pipe.
John :)

Forgot to mention the guy at Croxdale garage said its one unit.. manifold flexipipe and cat. I thought at the time he's pulling my leg

Im sick to death with the car and scrapyards. I d rather just get someone to fix the flexible part if poss,

Is it just the flexible bit itself, you can get universal ones to weld on providing the rest of the exhaust is good, £25 from Derek Wards in Bishop. Don't know what it is to weld, but I do it myself anyway, damn site cheaper than replacing. Someone ran into the car a few weeks and wrote it of, so at least I hadn't wasted too much money!!
