I know covering an electric shower cable in loft insulation can cause it to overheat. What can I use to protect the cable? It’s fairly tight against the joists so I wouldn’t be able lift it above the insulation.

I’ve already boarded two thirds of the loft. The area over the landing and bathroom have been left until last. I would want to maximise insulation and boarding without compromising the electric shower cable.

How much “space” does there need to be around a shower cable? Is a standard U channel conduit too small? What about a length of guttering?

Sadly not. There’s not enough slack. It will probably go over the base 100mm insulation but not the 170mm top up.

My plan is to cut the insulation to leave an empty gap around the cable. I need to know how much space to give it and ideally “cover” or protect it the way one might with covers that go over down lighters.
