Striplight on bookcase

Average time to do this simple job = 1 hour

Estimated time taken so far to create first post and subsequent posts = probably about 3 hours.

And we aren’t finished yet!

I’ve not even started yet @Taylortwocities. Cut me some slack!

I’m painting my bookshelf currently and this is the next task I will be approaching. Wanted to get all the info to plan this.

I’m hoping the actual task should take around an hour but only if I plan it beforehand.

Fail to plan, plan to fail!

Thanks for your patience

Sometimes rather than use a junction box you can use a surface box with a light switch as the front cover, fixed in the right place this not only doubles up as a connecting box for the wires but also a convenient switch rather than bending down to the plugTOP
Though it would need wiring between the Plug and the Transformer

Thanks for the responses guys. There’s one part that I am unclear on and would appreciate your clarification.

I will be fitting 2 lengths of led strip in these locations.

(The power socket is in bottom corner)

Once I attach the provided wires

The two strip lights are still far apart. I can’t situate the transformer in a location that can be reached by both of these wires.

I figured that I needed to extend these somehow. Since I am buying 2 core flex anyway (for the mains end of the transformer), I thought I should connect each of the above wires from the above led strip into its own junction box. Each of these junction box would then have a length of the 2 core flex going into the 12V end of the transformer.

There will then be a further 2 core flex with a 3amp fused plug on the mains end of the transformer.

Thanks again

Its unlikely you will get two cables in that transformers terminals, check first, you may need to go.
TRANSFORMER to BOX 1 then to BOX 2
