Hi all,

Our tilt & slide patio door is having problems closing. It is the same one as when we first moved in, so quite old now (10+ years).

The problem looks like it is down to the bottom of the door tucking in too soon, rather than just the last part of travel. In fact it looks like the bottom of the door will tucking all along the length of the bottom runner. Perhaps a pin or something has sheared?

Has anyone had similar problems before? Don't know what model/make the door is.

Cheers

Ok, tucking in to soon, do you mean the bottom of the door just flops in and out regardless of where it is along the runner?

Ok so what it appears is that a spring has snapped, have you seen any remenants on the floor, basically the bogie wheels act in a scissor like action, when closing the door the lead bogie hits a block at the end of the runner and this allows the scissor action to fold and the door falls into the frame, any time the door open and anywhere along the runner the spring keeps the scissor action clicked in a locked position, if that tiny spring snaps then the scissor action is free to do what it wants and just flops in and out, without knowing which mechanism you have its difficult to point to the exact cause but it sounds like the spring has gone, main players in tilt n slide gearing were 'GU' as well as 'SI Siegenia', google tilt n slide bogie springs and you'll get lots of pics on google images, Ive done a few before but their a PITA, the springs are pennies

I've managed to find some time to have another quick look. The tilt & slide patio door appears to be a Maco Gr.6 1851-2100.

Below is the bit I think may be causing the problem (see red arrow). It doesn't appear to hold in the little side keyway bit (I've marked the keyway with red line). Do you think this could be because the spring you mentioned isn't providing the tension to hold it in place or something? The metal arm does feel loose.

Cheers.
