Advert overload.

After many years of providing free advice, I'm seriously thinking about leaving the diynot forum due to the excessive amount of adverts being directed at users now. The new full page ads that sometimes do not close is the final straw. It's ruining what used to be a decent site.

Anyone who needs Galaxy Honeywell Dimension of Classic, G2 or Flex advice can get me at SelfMon uk.

Many less adverts are shown to users who are logged in, and no extra adverts have been added for literally years, specifically to make the user experience better for members.

There are more & different ads for guests (users not logged in) and these do change from time to time. The full page adverts for desktop users (who were not logged in) were something that were enabled in error and these should not be showing anymore (sometimes it takes a while for new settings to 'flush' through).

In summary, log in to your account to see less ads.

I haven’t noticed any increase over the years !.....but is that because I only view on an iPad ? I don’t use laptop or desktop ....?

Glad to hear it, for users logged in there has been no change to the ad positions / increase of slots / inter-page ads using any device (mobile, desktop or tablet).

I also haven't noticed any difference in adverts, and don't recall ever seeing a full page one. I use a desktop pc and an ipad, and am always logged in when browsing the site.

until you log in, you cant view the forum without get an advert in your face, this has been relatively new.

login in and its not an issue, but I have cursed several times in the last few days over it.
As I often remain logged in I don't always log in straight away, often have a look at anything new then log in, now that process is frustrating.

It's best to remain logged in if possible.

Unfortunately with the amount of 'non-logged' in traffic and the associated server/infrastructure costs it wouldn't be viable to run a similar level of ads for guests as members, especially as these ads help subsidise the costs of logged in traffic.

Having said that, it's useful to get feedback, as we occasionally trial different types of ads/layouts (for non-logged in users). It is a fine balance between user experience and generating the funds required to run the site, so your feedback is appreciated.

Okay, it may be that my devices aren't staying logged in, so each time I go to the site, I'm battered with ads. I've checked the 'stay logged in' checkbox. Will see how it goes.

The full page advert is particularly annoying when it doesn't respond to being click closed. The only way to close it is to refresh the page or close and reopen the browser. The other in-line ads aren't as bad.

I agree that's not acceptable. The current in-between page ads have now been turned off for all.

I only noticed it the other day when I was up in my workshop and I tried to view without being logged on as I couldn’t remember my login. Bleedin' advert after advert, I thought the site had been hacked.

Since Christmas the amount if ads that pop up is totally unacceptable. I agree with galaxy guy.
