creating corner post with plinth

Having had my kitchen designed, because i need to centralise my oven unit in the centre of my chimney breast (starting point for kitchen fit), this will mean that to the left of the chimney breast, where the corner unit meets the dishwasher on the return wall, a standard corner post won't fit.

The kitchen designer said i will need to make a corner post out of plinth.

Am i correct in my understanding that as i look at the corner unit, to the left of the centre post, i will install an end panel, the same thickness of the door. I would then use a cut off plinth to attached to this end panel, creating a corner post made to size;

Is my understanding correct.

How much room do you have? The idea is to design out problems not create one.

You could do this and yes it would work in the manner you are referring to.

If you are having a slab door you could use a door to form the corner post, presuming the appliance to the right of the sink is integrated you will also need a base end panel behind the corner post thus forming a 600mm gap for appliance and doubling as support for worksurface.

If you are having stone, corian, quartz worktops you could baton the sink run off the wall to enable the correct corner posts to be fitted, which is another option.

cheers - yes it's an integrated washing machine.so working from left to right at corner it would look like

integrated washing machine | End panel screwed to right side of dishwasher | plinth connected to side of end panel on washing machine and also base end panel on corner cupboard?

I was just going to fit the plinth made corner post to the corner unit and fit the integrated unit making the door flush with the plinth corner post, without actually securing it to the washing machine?

Ok working from the right hand side of sink base unit, next is washing machine which will need a gap of 600mm, this gap is formed from the right hand side of the sink base unit to the left hand edge of a base unit end panel. This end panel needs to be the depth of the base unit 580mm* and the correct height that it sits on the floor but also level with the top of the base units.

The corner post will be connected to the front of this end panel thus the face of the corner post at this point is in plain with door fascia's on that run, the gap between the left edge of corner post to right of sink should be 600mm.

Connect corner post to corner base unit with brackets etc, fill void behind with scrap shelf or similar so cans and stuff don't fall into void.

I can't though tell you what size the corner post should be, this will be determined after you have set the base units out.

Just to clarify one aspect: when you say "the corner post will be connected to the front this end panel", when you say the "front of this end panel", do you mean the part that is facing the washing machine.

And when i screw the post using brackets, do i line it half way across the vertical support post (as i would do with normal corner post), so that the door will close against the other half of corner post, making a flush close on the door?
ie. the base end panel on corner unit will be cut so that it stops at the start of the support pillar in middle of corner unit?

.... or, do i cut the end panel on the corner unit so that it runs halfway across the support pillar, with the door closing next to this? And then just install the corner post at 90 degrees to this so it's in alignment with dishwasher door and sink door etc?

I hope this makes sense.

Looking at the diagram it would appear that the End panel that sits behind the purpose made corner post is set 625mm from the wall of the oven run.

Fit oven cabinet and work to your left fixing all cabinets including corner base cabinet*.
From oven run wall measure 1243mm along sink run wall and draw a line on the wall at this point "this is the position of the right hand side of the sink base unit "fix in position". Measure to the right of sink base unit 600mm and Mark line on wall, this Mark is the left hand side of the base end panel which forms the 600mm void for the integrated washing machine.

Cut this end panel to carcass depth and a height so it can be bracketed to floor and supports the worktop. If you screw a baton to the top of sink base across to top of end panel set 600mm and screw to top of end panel "check end panel is plumb" you can work out what out width of corner post to corner base unit as depicted in my sketch.

I presuming the corner base unit is 800mm, the standard door for this cabinet is a 400mm door as there is a post at centre in this cabinet. However this post can be moved, there may be pre drilled holes in the top rail for this purpose, thus enabling a 450mm - 500mm door to be installed should this be viable.

Yes, the corner base unit is 800mm with a 400 door.

As a side question. I am installing laminate floring, at what pount would i fit this under the area of integrated dishwasher? Assuming as early on as possiblein the build?

I would put a bit of worktop or something similar under the washing machine, you don't need to floor it as it's integrated.

This setup is same as yours.
You can't see the plinth properly but it's basically a little piece butted up to the dishwasher end panel.
Corner post is just a standard one.

I was just thinking it may be easier to slide out in the future should it have to come out, with all being one level?
