tried the two types of plasterboard fixings-

Easyfix self drill and hollow wall anchor fixings

With the easyfix self drill the screws were so stiff going in then then when in plasterboard the whole thing screw and other bit started turning. How can you prevent this?

With hollow wall anchor ones worked great with a gun.

Do you check plasterboard thickness by going slow and feeling push through? Pushing screwdriver through hole to check for pipes?

I really don't think this actually needs any practice.

The hollow wall anchors with gun were easy and strong but I guess checking depth of plasterboard, to use the right one is a skill and then probing after drilling hole for pipes important too and less easy.

The easy fix fixings didn't work at all for me. Maybe faulty ones The screws too tight inside and whole thing turned

There have been previous threads about screws being too tight in some of those fixings, as if they were a “bad batch” or something.

I guess regarding depth of plasterboard can be measured by putting an alan key in hole and with the right angle when you pull it back have the depth. Probe for pipes with a screwdriver and initially drill slowly

Just use hollow wall anchors with a gun, plasterboard is either 9.5mm or 12.5mm with skim of 3-5mm unless double boarded.

Pipes/cables, use a detector or look for obvious signs.

Curly Wurlys are great for not a great deal....
