to return or not

so i treated myself to a cordless hikoki circular saw (C18DBAL), as i already have a couple of batteries and a fast charger i decided to go the body only route,

i bought the body for a good price as it was badged as a Hitatchi and not the new Hikoki brand, which didn't bother me.

any way its just arrived, and to my surprise it has a 5.0ah battery attached and it's got the new branding on it. RESULT

HOWEVER,

there is a small bit of damage to the casing where the battery locates (as per below pic) the battery still clicks in ok and feels secure enough.

do i call them up and get a replacement which would likely mean i'll have to send the battery back, or do i just take it as it is and glue the broken bit of casing back down?

I'd be tempted to just glue it, so long as you can be sure that it won't get worse and drop off in 13 months.
Also check with the supplier. Often they just ask for the device and zero accessories when stuff is repaired.
Presumably this is because they don't want loads of bits to keep track off?
Although they are likely to just swap the whole boxed set for a new one.

yeah thats kinda my same thoughts lol

although it was bought as a body only so no box or anthing, it shouldnt even have had the battery with it.
 
in that case probably just send the saw back
you might get lucky with returns, I had a black and decker fail once and contacted the supplier who didn't want the old one back.
They just posted me a new one.

if you stress that the body is damaged, it makes the returned item too expensive to fix.
I used to buy a lot of black and decker guarantee returns, they'd fix the fault (often people would buy from B&Q, put up some shelves, and return the drill as faulty!) and sell it again at outlets for 50% and with a 12 month guarantee.
Things may have changed now with cheap couriers, but if it's BER then it's no use to them

If you haven't decided yet I suggest emailing the supplier, explaining you found this damaged on arrival, and would like a replacement as you don't think this is repairable. Include the above photograph but DO NOT mention the battery being supplied with it. If you have the invoice which doesn't mention a battery then thats even better.

Let us know what you did.

PS If they don't want the damaged one back then I would use a good resin glue to stick it back down using a clamp to hold it in position until the glue sets.
 
If push comes to shove you'd probably weld that with a fine soldering iron or better still a hot stapler plastic bumper repair kit.
 
Send it back. May be ok for now but how will it be after the battery has been on and off potentially hundreds of times.
 
so to provide an update,

i returned the saw to the supplier minus the battery, nothing has been mentioned about the battery, and the supplier is sending me out another saw, i should have it by thursday with a bit of luck.
 
No more batteries, but arrived as Hikoki.

All good, can't fault the service. Just awaiting the carry case I ordered seperate.
