Hello,

Last year I had a new sink and tap installed in my kitchen. I went from separate taps for cold and hot water to a mixer. Since then I do not get hot water in my kitchen. A tiny bit of water come out and not even hot. The cold part work very well and full pressure.

What do you think could be the problem? With the old tap, I had hot water with a very good pressure. I have a hot water storage tank.

I don't aim to fix the problem myself except if super easy but I would like to understand before calling a plumber.

Thanks in advance.

did it work at all ?
A tiny bit of water come out and not even hot.
do you just get cold water flow? Tiny Bit, how much ?

any photos of under the sink

Flexible connectors , twisted.
Faulty Tap
isolating valve OFF or reduced flow
Airlock
High pressure taps , low pressure Hot water feed? We have higher pressure taps in kitchen and flow reduced BUT perfectly fine for a kitchen sink , but not as high as we had on old standard washer type taps

Can I ask that if you had a new tap fitted last year why did you let the installer leave your property when this wasn’t working. Under your sink is there isolation valves on your pipework. Is the iso valve on the hot side open properly to allow the water through (as you said it’s only a slow trickle)?

the cold flow is same as before, I have a lot of pressure. For the hot water, a little flow comes out when I open the tap ( see photo ) and it is not hot but cold.

1. Many mixer taps are designed to work from high pressure water supplies, 0.5 bar, 1.0 bar or above.
2. If you have a hot water cylinder, it is unlikely that your supply pressure will be more than 0.3 bar. If so, a tap requiring higher pressure just won't work properly.
3. Do you know the make and model of the taps? If so you may be able to look them up on the internet and find the expected working pressure.
4. I gather from the amount of PTFE tape on the valves under the sink the taps were not installed by a plumber. Did the installer supply the taps, or did you supply them? If he / she supplied, they should have known better. If you supplied they should have advised you of the risk of their not working before installing.
5. If the installation was less than 12 months ago, the installers ought to rectify the problem (unless you supplied the taps), but given the quality of the work I'd be surprised if they haven't ridden off into the sunset.

Thanks. Does it mean that having a tap mixer is not recommended when you have a hot water cylinder? Is there a way to fix the problem without having to change the tap?

You are right, I checked and it says "Minimum 0.5 bar, 1 bar is recommended"...

The installer was recommended by a friend... obviously not a good recommendation but at the time I did not feel like arguing. What's done is done, I would like to find a solution and above all I want to inform myself to always understand before letting someone fix something in my flat ( I had bad experiences with plumbers in the past ).

Show us a pic if your hot water cylinder and the pipework connected to the top of it.
If you are in a flat ,your hot water pressure from a vented cylinder is always going to be very low ,and the flow rate from any monobloc tap will be very poor. You could fit a pump .

Solutions are to either have a pump fitted, to boost the hot pressure, or change the tap for a type designed for low pressure. That means one with normal taps with washers which is also a mixer, or two separate normal taps.

With the poor flow in your pic ,you should still get hot water ,if you let tap run long enough ,and assuming the hot water cylinder holds hot water !
