I think the earth wire, (green yellow) is the switched live on the return from the thermostat. This is going to be removed, all those traced in red on the photo are to be disconnected, so the wired thermostat is completely out of the system? See the photo with the red traces
The black wire coming from the sunvic programmer backplate I believe is the central heating on power supply which is being fed to the brown wire, input to the thermostat and the green yellow is the switched live return.
I think the black then under the hive system would be used to call for heat on the ch side?
I may be barking up the wrong tree completely...
You think a lot. Seriously just get some one who knows what there doing. I got electrocuted pretty bad once due to a customers thinking they knew what they was doing. If someone is prepared to use an earth as 230v then good luck on what you may think.

Then don’t risk it I feel for your situation as cancer seems to have been taken a back seat and is wrong and hope she gets better. Just keep with what you got and just wait otherwise you blow something you’ll have to call someone out. Why risk it. Iv wired. Many heating systems and know the pitfalls and without testing you could seriously cause a major problem.
The cancer recovery is going well, thank you for the thoughts, it’s not so much back seat, we bought this ages ago and she would like to be able to turn the heating up and down without having to traipse around.
She feels the hot & cold and can’t generate much heat internally as had stomach removed essentially.
I digress.
I was hoping that it would be simple. I think I caused a red herring with the early part of the thread investigating the thermostat as this is going anyway.
So essentially it’s the hive receiver going directly to an Alpha CB, which is an old and simple boiler.
If I can’t find the right advice, then your right, I’ll put it all back as was and put it in the box for now.

Why are you making everything so complicated ???? just rip the lot out 1&2 from the Alpha to 1&3 on the hive single channel and a L&N to L&N on the hive from the boiler or fused spur simples
Dear Chris and Ianmcd, many thanks for your help and many apologies for making it more complicated than it perhaps needed to be.
I think I will go with the idea of new cable, pull the thermostat cable and start again.
So if I went for 5 core cable, L&N&E hive to L&N&E on the boiler, got that.
1 & 2 boiler (thermostat switching) to 1 & 3 Hive plate, does it matter which to which? 1 to 1 and 2 to 3?
One final question I think, the current wiring has a loop from L to 1 (common) on the hive backplate. This is retained or removed?

either way round for 1&3, doesnt matter it is just a switch and no need for an earth, run it and tether it if you want but it wont be doing anything and isnt required
