Do they still sell cast iron connectors to boss in to the stack that screws in?

What are the likely chances of getting one of the plugs out in more piece without damaging the stack?

A few applications of Penetrating oil and some heat (LOTS)with a large spanner and extension bar....It should fly out .

Personally, I'd give it 50/50. It's been in there a looooooong time I'm sure. It is in great condition though, so that's going in your favour.

100 years old 3" steel always unscrews with 60's and a scaffold pole if heated enough.

Yes of course and it could also crack if the casting has any flaws/weak spot, especially under heat, only ever done 4 and it's 50/50 so far. Though as suggested, it's clean and in good condition by the looks of it.

Could also slow core the cast and use a McAlpine Mech boss.

Drilling the plug and slitting it is another option that works well.

Really .... would never have though about that :sneaky: As they say slowly gently catchy monkey ..... I think my years in the trade have well taught me that 'touch', especially with years of working with old cast soil pipes/cast and copper bath and sink wastes etc up here in the old Glasgow tenements. Still doesn't stop the casting, that may have internal weakness, cracking under the stress sometimes.

I have a lovely pair of long arm stilsons hanging in the garage that I use specifically for that job, don't come across those cast bosses that often though.
