Just about to remove my fireplace, then found this underneath:

Looks like a concrete hearth, but only 100% way if knowing is to get it tested if it’s suspected.

There is a very good chance that it is, and AIB which is the more hazardous type.

Presume it is, either have it removed by a suitable firm (or test it), or if you feel it won't get damaged or disturbed in future (which is unlikely) then it could be left and sealed with paint.

I've ordered a test kit with ppe

Cover it with polyethene and taped edges to the floer boards for now. Or paint it all now (or PVA), especially that broken edge.

I've cancelled the test kit and got a professional company checking it.

It turns out that it is just a concrete hearth, had the whole house surveyed for asbestos whilst getting this done to be sure.
