Hi, I'm going to be converting my loft later this year. I've got 2D plans from my architect which give a good overview but they're lacking on how the dormer is framed. I'm teaching myself SketchUp and having a go at drawing the loft in 3D. I figured it'd help me understand how it's going to be built, and with ordering materials.
I've been looking at images of other dormer constructions but I can't find anything that clearly shows how the dormer cheeks are constructed.
How do you stud the dormer cheeks, should I run a diagonal timber from ridge to wall plate and build up from that? If that's the case how do you tie the stud work into the rafters?
Appreciate any help!
