Just deciding on taps for new bathroom and mrs is keen on a Aqualisa smart bath filler https://www.aqualisa.co.uk/aqualisa-unity-q-smart-shower-concealed-with-bath-fill-hp-combi.html

In the instructions it states the smart valve box can go under the bath:
"Choose the position for your Aqualisa SmartValve™ and diverter (where supplied) as close to the controller as possible. These may be sited in the roof space above the proposed shower site, in the airing cupboard or behind a screwed bath panel if more convenient"

So at first I thought ah that's maybe an option then, but then thinking about it a bit more these need to be connected to a fused double pole switch which I'm pretty sure cannot go under a bath? So really that means under a bath isn't really an option?

Full instructions: https://www.aqualisa.co.uk/amfile/file/download/file/291/product/2436/

Thanks for any advise!

can you fit it at the non tap end as there is usually space there. jacuzzi style baths have the air pump in the same place. the fused double pole switch can be outside the bathroom

I've been thinking about putting one of these smart bath fillers in, but I had a couple of concerns which I could not get a straight answer on from the rep of Aqualisa or Mira (I cannot recall which brand I was looking at, the other year). I'd asked the question if the water overflows via the overflow. Does it automatically shut off the water valves in the control box. I could not get a good answer. I could not see any wires from the overflow for a sensor, so maybe it has a sensor for pressure that it monitors instead?

To fill the bath with water from your bed when you wake up, I don't think you can currently program it to fill the bath at a certain time each day. I think you had to go into the app and request that you want to fill it. But then it knows your desired temperature and water level. This does of course require that you put the plug in the night before.

However it has not put me off, I'm still looking to do this. But in addition, I'm going to fit a normal set of taps as well. This will be more practical should I ever sell/rent the house or someone who is not tech savy and wants to use the bath.

The box was quite small, and I think I saw a video on plumberparts youtube where he fitted one. definately interested in how you get on with this install and any other challeges you face.

Hi, space isn't the issue, it's just what isn't and isn't allowed on the electrics side. Just annoying my mrs didn't mention this before all the plumbing was planned and completed (hot and cold water come up under bath) as I'd have simply put the unit in the loft and run the mixed output down the wall and no issues of where to put the switch as it'd be next to it in the loft.

Is it an option to locate the switch in the loft? I still have the ability to drop a cable inside one of the walls. I assume I run into the same problem though, connecting the units cable... junction box/wago connectors wouldn't be allowed under the bath would they? Would they be allowed under the floor under the bath as if so, problem solved.

You are correct there definitely are not any wires or a sensor in the filler/overflow. From what I can find my assumption is that it's the same as normal taps, it'll keep going even if water is going out the overflow! Only protection I can see in the manual is: "bath system has a maximum run time of 12 minutes as a precaution to prevent overflow. The bathfill can be stopped at anytime by pressing the ‘Start/Stop’ button."

To fill the bath with water from your bed when you wake up, I don't think you can currently program it to fill the bath at a certain time each day

My mrs doesn't want it for any or the remote or smart features... purely for the minimalistic look - for me I think these might be a bit overkill for just a bath, but for a shower or shower and bath install worth it.

The box was quite small, and I think I saw a video on plumberparts youtube where he fitted one.
Aqualisa youtube page have good install videos (
), they do look very simple to install.

To be clear, anything you could fit in another room would be ok under the bath provide you need a tool to access it. I personally would also take steps to have such items raise from the floor level in case of water leakage.

When googling I did come across a few posts stating that behind a bath panel secured by screws is zone free? If that is really the case then no issue as I have a wooden bath panel which will be secured. Also if I do get one of these units I'd locate it away from the drain/overflow and it'd be mounted on a board to raise it so if any water was to leak under the bath it shouldn't come into contact with the unit.
