Hi all.
Looking to paint over oil based gloss with water based. BUT, I don't think I can face all the sanding involved. Is there any products/methods you guys can suggest that would help me eliminate the sanding stage?

TIA

It will need sanding, to form a key and to get a better/flatter surface for the new paint to be applied to. It's not hard.

Not the reply I was looking for. *sob*
Five panelled doors, architraves, a rake of skirting, both sides of the stairs, was hoping there'd be a shortcut.
Ah well, better stock up on Norwegian formula hand cream.
Thanks for the reply.

I've got one of those multi tools somewhere. I'll have a go with that.
Cheers.

you could try bin 123, but if you got rubbish brush or not quick worker (as it drys quickly) forget it and just rubdown.

I've used that Bin 123 previously. Still sanded though. Just checked the tin and it says that it can be applied without sanding. Confused now.

Do one door a day.
Don't rush it.
If you can, take the door off the hinges and lie it on a table: your back will thank you for it.
Same when you paint it.

Hi johnny2007

That was the plan due to the presence of kids. Have to give them notice to vacate their rooms when planning any work but usually end up turning a hosepipe on them. I'm replacing hinges as well so doors need to come off.

Get the kids to help.

I wouldn't apply Bin 123 on top of oil-based gloss without sanding first. Some paints yes, but not gloss.

Get the kids to help - it's character building.

Yeah. I'll duct tape paint brushes to their phones.

Found an old post on here that advised sanding prior to applying Bin 123. Knew I wouldn't have sanded if I didn't have to.
