Hi guys. I'm tried to get the key out of a Yale 1 star lock in UPVC Euro door (avocet system) as pictured. The key has not been insterted fully it seems but has turned and now is stuck. I've tried to just remove and replace as I've given up trying to get the key out (wiggling keys, bumping etc doesnt work).

Problem now is the cylinder won't move. It appears to be locked in place even though the long retaining screw in side of the door has been removed. It's definitely locked not stiff as I can feel it move a few mms before bumping into something.

Is it that the cam is out of position and is stopping it coming out? Or is it another hidden locking mechanism. I can't see anything else to unlock.

Any suggestions welcome as I can't even replace the lock at the moment!

Wd40 the lock from both sides.

Put a key in the other side of the lock and see if it will turn.

Remove other keys/key ring on the stuck side and then attempt to turn with a pair of pliers.

Cheers. I've tried wd40, the other side lock, bumped ,wiggled everything. The key just won't move no matter how hard. it will just snap off with any more force.

It may have an offset cam to stop you removing the lock without a key .....worst case snap the lock ...

thanks mate. I think I have exhausted every possibility now. Some people have mentioned a hex lock or something or a grub screw somewhere behind the plate or something. I can't see anything like that. I will wait till tmro and then snap it off.

Have you tried lifting the Handel while try another key ?
Yeah, the indoor key is not in properly and the outdoor key won't go in properly even when hit with a hammer. so it's not gonna move.

Instructions here

Can you turn the key at all?
On mine you need to have the key turned about 10 or 15 deg to left or right to make the middle cam align with the rest of the lock.
Many need to put another key in otherside of lock.

That's the problem, I can't move the key at all only a few mms. So I can't line up the cam, the key is completely stuck. No key can go into the other side properly it seems because the inside key is inserted. I've tried using another key in the opp side and it won't turn at all.

Not sure you'll be able to snap that lock, could be anti snap.

5mm HSS drill bit, and some patience - drill where the star is.

Given that you're going down the destruction route, have you tried (gently at first) hammering the key in further instead of trying to get it out?

Has the whole lock moved towards the inside slightly? It looks like that in the photos. The key wont be able to turn the cam unless its right in the middle of the door, it might be stuck on the metal mechanism body. I'd try pushing the whole lock back inside the door (to the point where the screw can go in through the side) and then try to turn it again.

Hi. Yes I tried to hammer both front and back keys, no luck. :(

Hi. yeah i tried it when screw was in place and it was still in same position as normal. Key does not move barely at all.

Lol. I tried snapping it off with mole grips and it won't come off. I've pressed so hard hte metal has stripped from the barrel....and nothing... :) It's quite a modern lock so they're probably much harder to break now. I don't have a drill strong enough to drill through it, so I can't think of a solution right now!
