Electric Oven Element replacement

Hello

I have just tried replacing the element and I only have one wire with its spade terminal. The other one has disappeared into the back of the oven. However the old element does look like this so I am wondering what has happened.

Any ideas ?

Well - it's broken.

It might still work if you can reconnect the wire.

Often they overheat and the spade disintegrates but it doesn't look like it has been overheated.

The trip didn’t go on the circuit breaker and the old element looks okay.
