Labour - Estimate of Time?

I said half a day for a Power flush......

It takes an hour to set up. Half an hour to pack up. Not forgetting getting it in and out of storage.

Thats most of the day.. I'd be charging minimum £380. Including x800 or FX1 and neutralizer

Setting up
Powerflush half a day. I recommend new rad valves most of the time
Boiler installation half a day.
Cement flue
Wire controls
Commission
Clearing up
Hard days work....

Ignoring the (perhaps unnecessary) powerflush, it is as suggested a half days fairly easy work for one person. It's a straight forward new for old, same model swap on a tiny heating system. Certainly not the 4 man days being quoted.

All I have seen of manufacturers manuals, is that they insist a new boiler is installed onto a clean system. Clean depends on how well the system has been looked after as well as how old it is. If a system is clean, then no amount of power flushing is going to make it any cleaner. My system is 35/40 years old and has been looked after by me, it is spotless. I did fit a filter two years ago and I have checked it several times since then - it has collected almost nothing.

Harry's not a bad fella... but this is why customer's get a bad job.... listening getting recommendations from people who don't really know.

What about if the gas is undersized or the condense has been run externally in overflow.
The new boiler will need a magnetic filter
and a scale reducer.

So how can you comment on how long it would take to fit a boiler when you never have????? On the other hand I would say Ian has fitted hundreds of boilers and knows what he is talking about.

Quite simply I was responsible for hundreds of boilers. You don't need to have installed a boiler, to actually know how to fit one, or how long such an easy install should take, nor do you need to be gas qualified to know how to repair one.

It's a like for like swap of a boiler, how much easier can it be? The gas should not be undersized, the condense should be fine, it takes minutes to add a filter, if indeed it is lacking one.

The OP asked about a straight swap which should be easily done in a day. Of course it quite possibly is not just a straight swap but that isn't what the OP asked.

..and this is why customers are often taken for a ride on the unnecessary costs.

You said above >YOU< could powerflush in half a day, fit the boiler in half a day. So one full days work, I assume you work alone? I make that one day even including the powerflush, versus the four man days the OP has been quoted.

I agree completely with your estimate of the time required to do the job.

would love you to be in front of a judge and explain yourself
