Hi folks, I'm dealing with a 2480 mm high room that needs to be boarded out with standard 2400x1200x12.5mm plasterboards.

Basically, even after boarding the ceiling and raising the sheets off the floor, the room would still be approx 55mm too tall to take a single full sheet. This means I'll have to add slithers of plasterboard around the perimeter to make the height. DAMN!!!!

What are my options? Can I butt up full sheets to the ceiling, accept a tall gap below the sheets and just cover it with taller skirting?

If I have to 'slither', should these go at the top or bottom?

2x1 battens on the floor?

Remaining gap at the top fill in with plaster/filler?

Batten on floor will be hidden by skirting

Hmmm - Not liking the idea of a ring of filler around the top of all 4 walls. I'm thinking if I batten below, I'll just use a taller batten! I wonder what the plasterer would think seeing sheets raised almost 60mm off the floor!!

Am I being stupid? Your gap at the bottom will be 80mm, and the smallest normal skirting is 100mm? I cannot see any issue.....

I'm actually beginning to come around the idea of having a 'non-standard' gap beneath the sheets. The 'standard' seems to be a wedge of 12.5mm offcut but there's nothing to say it can't be higher.

The way your post is worded you'll have a 5mm gap somewhere.

Do you have an 55mm gaonor an 80mm gap?

As has been stated, the skirting board will more than cover whatever gap you have at the bottom and the plaster won't give rats bum

Do you have an 55mm gap or an 80mm gap?

Floorboards to joists height is currently 2480mm but after boarding the ceiling, I'll be at 2467.5 mm.

If I was to lift the sheets 12.5mm off the floor (by wedging an offcut of plasterboard), I'd lose a further 12.5mm so I'd be down to 2455mm.

The sheet is 2400mm so I have an excess of 55mm and like others suggested, skirting will cover it

So 3 inch timber on floor and trim the board then.

No need for filling.

Your welcome for my help in my first post ;)

The "standard" on a lot of sites I've worked on was 2 no. Plaster board packers, or 24 to 25mm
