Hello all,
I have a 1930's semi with lime rendered spar dashed walls. It's not in bad condition and I'd like to paint it. Local builders all want to put Sandtex over it but I'm concerned about if it will breathe with this. Lots of painted houses around here and some have flaking issues, some not so bad.
Anyway, I contacted Sandtex and they said it wasn't suitable on lime. Dulux state the same for their Weathershield masonry paint.
Does anyone have a recommendation or am I just being paranoid? I can't imagine any of the other houses have bothered with this and just went with Sandtex.
Promain recommend Mapei mineral paints but that needs a primer which means going round 3 times. Not bothered about the cost of the paint really. Another supplier recommended Zinsser but Zinsser say not suitable on lime (it's a quagmire, this).

There's no such thing as a modern breathable paint for lime render, despite what the tin states, you would have to make a traditional whitewash but you could add a colour pigment if you wish. Also, it will weather off so you will have to reapply in a few years time.
