I’ve removed the sink from downstairs cloakroom as we are getting new flooring and a new vanity unit and sink installed over the next few weeks. I’m now thinking maybe these isolation valves may not be ok left like this?? If they were going to leak it fail in some way surely they would have by now??

They'll be fine, as long as they are closed properly and not dripping/passing slightly.

Make sure the arrows are pointing up otherwise (in theory) the guts can be blown out be the pressure....and cover the ends.

I'd also tie a plastic bag over the remains of that trap, or remove it and cap the pipe, otherwise you may get a bit of a hum in there from the waste/drains.

Yes the arrows are pointing upwards. You’ve got me a litre concerned now about covering the ends.

Why...I'v lost count of the times I've seen isolating valves full of plaster/debris....tape them up.

just get a couple of blanks from SF/TS, take the pipe tails off the valves and pop them on.

th

Also if you just put the other half of the trap back on and put some water in it, it'll stop any hum.
