We had underfloor insulation done on Saturday morning.
They made a hole in the corner of the room and one of them went done to put the insulation under the floors.

I heard loads of banging - he broke a small part of the brick work.
He also managed to give the central heating pipes a few whacks.

One of them said he would put the brick work back.
But when the guy who went down came up, he said it wasn't necessary.

I wanted an opinion on this. I don't think the house is in danger of falling down.
And I can understand moving a few bricks won't actually harm as such - but that's my uneducated guess.

Please see the pic below. He's broken the first few bricks. He removed maybe double the amount you see in the pic to get through.

Thanks.

Depending on how much that top timber now spans without any brickwork underneath it, and where it ends, it could be an issue. If it’s only what you see in the pic then it’s probably ok

That one joist does not look like it's actually sitting on the plate. The hole should be ok though.

Guys, I spoke to the builder who did our extension.
He said the bricks MUST be put back!!
He said for load, there was no danger in the house falling down.
He said in the long term, new problems WILL arise.
One thing he mentioned was there would be gentle shaking in the location where the missing bricks where which would cause progressive damage.

Someone else told me the main timber where the missing bricks were would bend over time - not today or tomorrow, but within a few years (5-10), which will result in a major repair.
That was just an educated assumption, not a builder. But that does make sense to me.

A few like that in mine, I wedge a bit of vertical 4x2 under - can be easily removed by the next person who needs to get under - plumber to fix your heating pipes?
