Hi,

I have a stormforce draper air nailer, used a bit 2-3 years ago, then it has been in its box, inside another sealed box in the warm and dry.
Came to use it and it just puffs air, opened it up to see if there was any corrosion, none visible, all clean and still with plenty of its original grease. I oiled it up and tried it again, same problem.

The o-ring for the main cylinder may have swollen? as it takes about 1.5kg or so before it starts moving up or down.
Everything inside is really shiny.
Any ideas what I should try?
I have the Draper "Manual" from online, but it does not provide much help, not even itemising all the parts, just a few obvious ones!

Well I have fully cleaned it inside, just in case the grease had hardened I removed it all and added some fresh oil all over, (when I get it going again will add grease if required).
After an open and clean it will fire once then stop, only air until I open and clean again.
What should I be checking now?

I keep cleaning it, it will do 0-5 nails then just puff again. I have found that the original o-ring had some scuffing on the outside. Replaced that with one from a lidl o-ring kit I luckily had to hand. It is initially smoother, but when left to stand for a while it seems to stick, and will need a big push to move it, even when out of the nailer and it is just the cylinder and push bar/piston assembly only.
Any one with any ideas?

And there may be the answer? My own guns (all 1st fix) were thoroughly cleaned and all grease removed before I ever used them. In use they either have an in line oiler fitted, or are given a few drops of air tool oil down the whip hose before every session. Periodically the tops of the cylinders are removed, any traces of oil/water mixture thoroughly cleaned out and both the cylinder and the switch/valve are oiled with air tool oil - never grease which in combination water can form a gooey gelatinous compound that jams things up. In other words grease is bad and thoroughly cleaning it out and blowing it out of the tool may help cure your issues

Ok, I will try a complete clean down again. there is currently no visible traces of grease as I have oiled it a lot, it has been opened up at least 20 times today, each time it does a few then stops. I wipe and clean all the parts, then oil for assembly and try again.

The first nailer I had managed many years before the nail transport part became worn out and it kept jamming so was replaced with this draper. I only ever needed to add oil before and during use.

The grease that was in the draper was pale and soft as it was slowing thinning down with the added oil.
