When using tile trims around alcoves or windows, do you put the lip side of the trim facing outwards (towards you) and mitre the corners OR do you put the 10mm lip on the inside so that you have the thinnest part facing you?

In my case, I need as much tile as I can get in the window reveal, so I used the beading with the flat/flange on the front, which allows me just a little more tile ''.
As long as you do them all the same, I guess it doesn't matter - until someone here tells us the proper way ;)

Do you know what sort of tile trim is used in this photo? This one seems to have two large faces, trying to understand what it looks like uncut.
