I want to dot and dab a party wall with something good for keeping sound in/out.

Is there a better product than the blue plasterboards?

Only problem is it’s the wall where the stairs are so needs to be kept thin. I won’t need many board so don’t mind paying more within reason.

Thanks

Dot and dab sound board won't do anything noticeable. You need to use resilient bars ect.

Sticking on with foam and not letting them touch the edges may help keep it thin as a plan B.

Sound proofing is like waterproofing. It's all or nothing

Ok, thanks.

How thick would resilient bars with a sheet of the blue stuff be?

Theres another wall to do between kitchens but I can do something thicker there.

Ends up about 110mm. Wood then resilient bars and 2 layers of board..
75mm wood which is less than recommended. Bars plus 25mm of board so it's a lot.

Problem is you should really do ceiling as well...

Foam is good to stick board straight on wall and hope for the best as foam is not a solid like board adhesive.. Well that's the theory... More solid it is the more sound travels through hence the 3mm gap all the way around which you fill with mastic then plaster.

I think I’ll try the foam with the blue boards, sealed around the edges. Thanks very much (y)

Would you recommend a specific foam?

B&q sell foam gun for £10. It's metal and in the building section near plasterboard vs the decorating section..
Much more control with that.
A can of foam cleaner to..

Some just use those cans without the gun fine though especially with the board but just pointing out.

Dry fix from everbuild is one for board , I've used all sorts fine though. Not much much in it. Just foam

I'll second the advice about res bars. I've worked on quite a few jobs where these were use extensively and they make quite a difference to the amount of sound transmitted, even where no timber studding is used

Have a look @ their SM 20 system and video - it's all glued together (y)
