Shower hose wall outlet with female 1/2" BSP?

Hi,

I've had a Triton mixer shower installed for years and am now going to re-tile my bathroom. The current shower hose wall outlet is chromed plastic and now grotty, it's this one:

I can get a direct replacement at a few places, but it's ridiculously expensive for what it is and I'd prefer something metal. However, nearly all the shower hose outlets I've seen have a 1/2" BSP male thread, apart from cheapo things like:

So, the connection I have for the existing hose outlet is a 1/2" BSP male thread - it protrudes out of the wall a little way and the rest of it is mortared into the sold brick/underlying plaster.

I'm wondering whether I should dig out the current male thread from the wall and attach a socket like this:

However, if I use the above, I'm going to have to uncover the existing thread quite a bit to then be able to to "get in" and shorten it enough so that a male thread hose outlet will screw in and be flush with the new tiles. I also wonder a bit about whether the thread I end up with will be good enough to get it water tight anyway, being that it's currently embedded in mortar that'll need to be removed...

Are there any decent metal shower hose outlets, with a 1/2" BSP connection, that I'm missing when searching, or is turning it into a female connection my only real option? If I need to do the latter, what's the best approach?

Thanks!

Don't think I've seen a female thread one before, the trouble you'll have is being able to dig the old one out enough to cut the threads then wind that socket on, I'd just get the triton replacement.

Thanks. Yeah, I've been thinking that too - thing is, once the tiling's done, that's "it" for a long while so, if it's possible, I'd like to have something a bit more generic and replaceable there as the outlet.

It's a good shower, it's just really annoying that it came with this whole male threaded thing and what's, basically, a custom outlet.

I was wondering whether any of the "standard" outlets with 1/2" male thread have the male thread as detachable i.e. so it that it's actually female when removed. I've seen one on Ebay that looks like it removes, but it doesn't seem great quality either:
