hi guys
just tiling my bathroom at home, the wife chose these tiles

https://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Oly...celain-Wall+Floor-Tile---600-x-300mm/p/213367

tried 2 different manual cutters and they cut short ways successfully 2 out of 4 tries and long ways no chance, I have tried varying pressures whilst scribing with no joy, I put a new blade on my wet cutter (big plasplugs) and it takes ages to do a cut and usually ends up chipping off before I get to the end of cut, I have bought expensive porcelain blades for grinder which work ok but again speeches and chips, I'm wasting tiles at an alarming rate, the manual cutters I used were a McAllister 600mm, crap I know but ok for most ceramic jobs also tried a rubi practic (basic model) with slightly better results but still not even close to good enough. my question is if I purchase a

or

will it snap these down the 600mm side or is it the tiles that are sh11te

any advice or contribution is massively appreciated.

thanks in advance

Get yourself a wet bridge saw.

They will snap down the long side but you will need a large (high load) and decent manual cutter. Much easier to do with either a wet bridge saw, dry saw, grinder then the manual cutter in that order of preference. (Manual Vs grinder preference will cause some debate)

Montolit is the good choice, generally a more popular brand. Their grinder blades are great. But the sigma cutter also nice.

Aim for a decent cut that a polishing pad can clean up.

Also as a last tip be thankful your "client" hasn't selected a 4ft X 2ft porcelain tile!

thanks
I have seen a bridge saw in the store at work, i may have to borrow it for a bit
do you think the monolith will do the job or
can anyone recommend a manual cutter for porcelain tiles, hopefully one that wont break the bank as it's only really for my bathroom,

Montolit will do it but you'll need a bigger one to do 600mm diagonals if you need?

Surprised you can't get decent cut with grinder and sponge, it will take a fair amount of time but it should do it. Get a continuous blade and keep it cool.

Try renting a sigma cutter.
That's what I do when I have to cut porcelain tiles.

hi guys thanks for all the help and advice, it is really appreciated. I have managed to get a 900mm ergo glide cutter, (topps tiles own) from work and it cuts them perfect almost every time even long ways down to about 1.5 inches. I'm wondering is there something that cleans up the cut edges, with ceramics I use a tile file, what is there for porcelain?

You can use diamond polishing pads, I like the rubi manual foam ones but many styles exist.
