Battens put on over the gaps between the boards.

Update - or lack of update.

so since losing my job in feb/March, I have set up my own little business to keep the money coming in and mortgage payments going out.

Dee Property Services

I have just posted on Facebook and got work though that and word of mouth.
I’ve repaired a few sheds. Fitted out a new bathroom suite. Built a log cabin gazeebo. Done a couple of pergolas. Repaired a cow barn. Tiled a bathroom. Tiled a kitchen. Got more tiling jobs to do. Got a kitchen to fit. Hopefully building a friends outdoor bar. Got a pergola to build. Got an en-suite to tile. Got a toilet and basin to fit. Another basin to replace. A shepherds hut needs sanding and painting. It’s pretty mental.

Also I have half a dozen jobs to visit and price up when I get chance to.

I’m loving the work. Something different every day. And I don’t get that sickening feeling every Sunday afternoon about work on Monday morning. It’s great. I’m earning less without the usual company perks I’m used to but I don’t care. More time at home. Shorter working days. It’s great.

Aaaaannnnnndddddd……. I’m submitting plans to have 2 log cabins built in the garden to let out on Airbnb. More of that to come on another thread no doubt.

Back to the workshop. I am struggling to find any time at all to get it finished. But I will. Need to get the doors built then I’m laughing really. Oh and roof needs finishing off and gutters putting up. And inside needs boarding out. And electric needs running to it. And the exterior needs a good tidy up where the pile of excess hardcore is from when I laid the base and piles of soil are. And it needs some sort of protection applying to the wood. So not much left to do…

anyway, enough for now. Be seeing you!

Small update… but I’ll take what I can when I can. My new business is keeping me busy! As well as family commitments.

ridge finished. Facia’s done. Formed the tin round the ends of the roof. Gutter ordered. Gone for galvanises steel. Coming wednesday.

Facia’s a bit waves due to roof timbers but won’t be noticeable once guttering is fitted.. I hope. Once guttering arrives, I’ll trim excess to suit. Then I’ll make the doors and board out the internals.

So managed to get half a day to my self to crack on with workshop yesterday. Cut back excess tin on both sides. Front side of guttering installed. Bloody lovely stuff to work with. Very easy and user friendly. Only trouble is, now guttering is fitted it highlights how wiggle the roof and wood work is. Haha. Love the look of it. Think it finished it off nicely. Was so excited with a bit of guttering but it would have been criminal to fit cheap plastic.
Total cost of guttering is £339.33. A pretty extravagant purchase in comparison to other parts of the build but worth it! Can’t recommend this roofart galvanised guttering enough. They also do many other finishes like copper and painted. Worth a look.
Was up a ladder with an angle grinder and the wife pops over with a bottle of corona beer. Don’t know if she was being nice or trying to kill me off. Hoping to finish the back side tomorrow give half a chance.

We have doors! Well one is on and the other is laid on the workshop floor. Would have had them both up today but the wife had other plans… like they do.

same 6x1 timbers used as the exterior cladding. Ripped them through the saw in half for the profile frame. Then for the diagonal boards I put a 45 degree edge on both sides before gluing and screwing them on. Did the 45 degree cuts to keep water out and glued the full length. Being diagonal it should prevent sagging too Big heavy duty hook and strap hinges to keep them in place.
Had to shift a bit of the left over hardcore so I could swing it open

Once the other door is hung I’ll trim out the door aperture with a bit more 3x1(6x1 ripped down in half) and then a 3x2 timber along the floor to keep a bit of water out and give a positive stop for the door bottoms.

Also going to put some triangular gussets on the inner side of the door. No particular reason but won’t harm.
