Toot! Toot!

Having transited the canal several times myself,
I’ve been through it once on a cruise ship in 1982. From memory they had to let a pilot on board and he brought his mate. He unwrapped a blanket on board and was trying to sell the most unbelievable stock of old toot I’ve ever seen. The best thing amongst his stock was a rusty padlock with no key.

They were about to get the lads from Alang in Gujarat, India, - 24hrs she'd be stripped to last nut and bolt - next 20 hrs all parts including cargo gone - 4hrs later e-bay flooded with kit.

We used to hire a Gully Gully Man to entertain the sailors during the canal transit. No matter how much we would badger him, we just could not fathom how he managed to produce so many baby chicks during his magic tricks.

He climbed onboard with loads of eggs and the heat makes them hatch, easy
