I'm really struggling to get this right. I've done a mock up which seems to work ok but I think the tray should be lower? Between the battens, but then there's nowhere for the water to go. Should I make up some tilting fillets instead of the bottom batten?
The tile height seems ok at two battens, assuming they should be parallel on the top faces? I'm worried that the tray will end up above and behind the gutter rather than in it.

I'm no roofer but I'm sure those plastic trays must discharge into the gutter and also they go under the battens with the breathable membrane on top and battens on top of both.

Put the gutter up first, as above, tray below battens....I would add to the top of the facia rather than 2 battens at the bottom..they will push the trays down.

Agree with above, no battens next to fascia, its the fascia height that sets the height of bottom tile.

NO! its you who sets the height of the fascia which determines the plane of the first tile, cut some tilting fillets/sprockets if needed.

That's what I meant but i probably didnt use the right wording.

Get rid of those battens at the bottom of the roof - THATS THE JOB OF THE FASCIA BOARD.

That's what I've seen, but I'm using pvc fascias - are they strong enough to carry the weight of the tile? I'm probably ok on the new extension because it's 120mm rafters so plenty of meat for nailing but the main roof only has 75mm rafters and not in great condition.

I'm using 18mm freefoam.

Here's the latest lash-up, a firring piece on top of the rafter with a batten on top (I can see the piece further up that packs up the tray will need to be shorter so it doesn't trap the felt coming from under the higher batten). I presume it's actually ok to sit the tile on a plastic fascia but doesn't seem that right to me, then I'm reading more last night and apparently it's ok to nail your eaves clips down into the top of the fascia - which is basically a piece of foam - I can't see that doing much after a few years of wind rattling it all.

You don't need the bottom batten.
18mm upvc facia will hold the tile, tile clips and tray no problem, they are designed for that.
