Can anyone give me an idea of rough cost total cost for 40m2 of sarnafil - membrane and fitting. Easy access on a single story flat roof. Thanks.

Do you mean Sarnafelt? It's a tough vinyl-like material applied using a rolled on contact adhesive and a heat gun and rollers.

It might well be. Slippery as hell to work on when it is wet - poteniltially lethal if there is ice or slush on it

Sika Sarnafil membrane for flat roofs.

Its more of a commercial roof finish than domestic, which will bring with it an uplift in cost, particularly on a small roof.

Been on a new build block of apartments for a few weeks recently which had that type of roof. Lethal in the wet, frightening in the snow!

Hi, new user and first post but might be able to help here.

Some of the other guys are right, Sika Sarnafil is quite a premium product and has a has an approved list of contractors who can buy and install it. However there multitudes of equal PVC membrane products available, including from Sika which are a bit cheaper.

So I would recommend Sika Trocal S mechanically fixed system as a suitable alternative. For reference Sarna tends to be more expensive due to the very overdone perimeter details which require retainer bars and Sarnametal at every upstand and abutment. You also pay for the name with Sarna in all honesty.

As for costs, I'm assuming there's about 26 mtr of perimeter detail to suit 40 m2 flat roof area and that your specification would be something like...

22mm Ply
1 nr roll -S-Vap 500 VCL
2nr roll - Sika Trocal Type S, 1.5mm thk (15 yr guarantee)
Mechanically fixed to ply.

For side lap welding, Trocal have a good liquid weld system where you are using squeezy plastic bottles with a little brush nozzle, you squeeze the liquid onto the membrane and it will chemically weld the lap together.

All in cost for materials, you would expect to pay about £1100 for the Trocal materials.

That would include discs and fixings, welding agent, liquid PVC, Trocalmetal... You might need to budget for some timber fillets and misc fixings for detailing work.

If you need to allow any outlets, overflows, scuppers, etc for rainwater management... allow between £50-£75
Two man squad should be able to complete the works in a day or two.

Cheers,
Alba

Had the garage roof rubberised after too many years of constantly checking and repairing, still checked it and come winter nearly broke my neck with some green mould after it had rained! needless to say i tried to keep it clean.
