gravel driveway

What's the point of asking questions and getting advice from people who have completed this sort of work for you to ignore them and do it your way???

Andy
Sorry Andy...! not trying to offend anyone.. Its just I was getting too many conflicting ways of doing this and after asking several neighbors how they did theirs I couldnt see that anyone had used a grid.. regarding paving Im on a budget and thought that using stone would be my best option

Have a look at your neighbours where their drive slopes towards the road, are there any stones on the pavement?

Anyway, keep posting pictures of the work, it is always good to see progress of jobs.

Hi all.. and thanks for everyone’s replies.. just to update this and for any reference

It ended up been 60sqm

dug out to 190mm

put in old fence panels for suttering off

Type 1 mot 19.5 tonne = 150mm

Nordic green granite 6 tonne = 50mm

Three loads in and out with grab truck

With respect to advice on putting gravel grids down.. to a degree this may depend on your budget.. but I opted not to use it

Im guessing I will have a small amount of maintenance to do every now and again re-rake it but Im hoping that will be about it. only time will tell

Attached are pics - it is completely level (just where it was drying out a bit after washing it over looks as though its not level)

I found that to level either the type 1 or the stones - a wooden pallet with nails through it did a great job

Ill report back in a month or so and tell you if I had any problems

Thanks again

legepe
