Branches from a radial

Consider a ring rather than a radial, as it can be 32 amp using smaller cable (2.5mm2).
True, but that would guarantee that he had to have two cables in each 'drop', which is exactly what he was hoping to avoid.

It would, but I'm not sure why he thinks it's so hard to get two cables in each drop - which is partly why I suggested singles - the whole circuit could be a combination of T+E and singles it it makes running the supply from the consumer unit easier.

You haven't mentioned lighting as of yet. Are you sure this won't become a 'mancave' with heating etc at a later date? I still say 4mm on radial, looping in and out.

Possible, I suppose, but I'm not convinced ...
.... a small outside yard between the house and garage which has now been covered . It will be used as a utility type area ...
We need the OP to clarify.

The OP was only asking specifically about wiring the sockets, so I suppose there was no need for him to mention lighting (of which I assume there will probably be some) - but I don't think the existence of lighting alters anything which has been said, does it?

The OP has not actually ever mentioned any perceived problem in getting two cables into each drop.

I may be wrong, but I thought the OP was probably more concerned with 'saving cable' (albeit that is trivial).

True, but do people really think about going to the trouble to do all these joints just to save a bit of cable THESE DAYS?

50+ years ago they often DID do this sort of thing, but I would say it's mostly frowned upon now unless there is a good reason.

There's no particularly rational reason why they should, but I suspect that some still do.

I suppose the pedantically ultra-'eco'-minded might say that every 'unnecessary' metre of cable results in extra 'wasted energy' (and an addition to global warming) :)

I personally don't think there is enough of a potential issue for any 'frowning' to really be justified. I don't doubt that it happens occasionally, but I personally cannot recall, in many decades, having ever experienced a 'failure' in/of a JB.

I know of a good few modern (not 50+ years old) bungalows (with solid floors) in which, for example, the only things on the ring finals (in the roof space) are JBs and all of the sockets are on drops therefrom.

Surely 4 Milli cable in trunking should be derated to 20A?
