I have posted here extensively about a problem I had with a sticking brake caliper. My local garage replaced the flexible hose to that wheel and the problem seems to be fixed. But during the process he enquired about a replacement caliper (Aveo auto 2012) as he thought mine needed to be changed.

He was told by his parts supplier that they had actually contacted Chevrolet and the part was on 'back order' and they weren't sure if/when one would come available. (This is what I was told at KwikFit when I first took it there). Can it be possible in this day and age that a car that was bought new in 2012 cannot be repaired because of the lack of spares from the manufacturer?

My local chap found a GM OE part number on the caliper and traced it through that. He put the old caliper back and it feels fine now so my question is ....do I tell We Buy Any Car that there is a fault? Morally I think I should mention it although it has 'probably' been fixed by the new hose.

The likes of we buy any car are actually owned by the major car auctions, so they will give you what they think the car is worth in auction minus commission. It’s up to them really, so if your car has an MOT then no issues.
If in doubt, say nowt
John :)

If the calliper isn’t sticking, it’s fixed. You don’t need to tell wbac about a problem that doesn’t exist.

WBAC will punt it out to the trade so any future problems won’t be the responsibility of the new owner for the first few months - that’ll be down to whoever sells it to them.

Why do people use WBAC? Aren't used prices good at the moment and you'd get a better price on somewhere like Ebay?

Sorry if I sound like teaboy with all the questions. :ROFLMAO:

Only kiddng, Jim. ;)

I suppose it's laziness on my part. They have a cabin in a store car park nearby and when you've been given an indicative price you just go along to seal the deal. Plus, if I tell a prospective buyer about the brake issue they'll back out anyway.

When you take it to the cabin, the guy will give your car the once over and knock money off for anything he can find.

Theoretically possible.I would guess that the caliper has a minimum order quantity from the supplier, and the parts scheduler is unwilling to buy maybe 500units - which may represent 25 years demand for an unpopular model - and so lets the back-orders build up. This satisfies any legal issues about maintaining parts availability for older models as the part is still "live", doesn't annoy bosses with too much stock, but might mean the part is never available, or at least until the back-orders get close to the required order quantity.

Will 10 months' MOT count as a positive?
Proper spare wheel, full service history and 2 new tyres too! I realise that they hammer down the offer when you get there but we're not talking big money anyway. I can always drive away.
