Cement Fibre Panels

Hi all,

We've built a wooden structure with a lot of windows (full height) and so there are essentially 2 corners/pillars and it's covered in OSB and then damp membrane so we were either planning on simple wooden siding (i.e shiplap sort or thing) or steel roofing sheets, both which we like but we've come across Cement Fibre Boards/Panels and have seen some You Tube videos on people using these but some videos show them THEN putting battens and cladding on top of that or skimming over the top but then some videos show them just painting the boards/panels as they are some as i've never heard or used these does anyone know if these are just a "carrier" for something on top or can they be left as they are (obviously the joins filled and the whole lot painted) ? Reason being is that as the end of our building has 2 "pillars" i think this would give a much neater finished than Cladding or Steel as these boards will butt up against either other around the corners (like plaster board) rather than having corners to join the edges of the steel or the cladding ?
Hope this makes sense but any advice would be great ?

I've seen some whacky Architects that have done just that and clad in bare board

So one other thing is that most have put battens on to create an air gap (as you obviously would with cladding) but then some have fixed it direct to the wall with no gap ? we've got OSB so again it would go straight onto the membrane on the OSB and again there would be no gap...assuming that would be ok ?
