I have a really old neff fan oven. Fine through a few elements over the years, but otherwise really solid. It's started tripping the rcd, but only after 30 mins at max temperature. I suspect the element, but before I buy a replacement, is there anything else I should check?

The elements are mineral insulated, and it is hydrophilic that is it attracts water, so if the seal goes then it will cause the RCD to trip.

When you say the seal, do you mean the bag a new element is stored in before installation? I did have one once that tripped the first box as soon as it warmed up, for this reason. In the end I baked it in the top oven and it fixed the problem, presumably because some water was removed.

But in this case, it's not tripping until running at 270c for half an hour. It's that still consistent with a damp insulator?

At each end of the element there is a seal, once damaged moisture will get in, the heat in the element can move it around, yes baking can be a temp fix, but once seal is damaged it will happen again.
