This is a bit of an unusual one!

I have a flush mounted back box - the type which is used for a 6 or 8 gang grid switch.

I’m looking for a blank plate to fit this box. I’m hoping to make a custom plate from a blank plate to accommodate some audio connectors, so a grid plate full of blank switch modules will not be suitable.

Does such a thing exist? I can’t say I’ve ever needed to use one before now...

Depends which audio connectors, if they are chassis D then you will need a custom plate.

You can obtain "Gang Plates" with no mechanisms/modules installed. You can also obtain "Blank Modules" such as "G3544 Blank module" to suit these "Plates" https://www.detaelectrical.co.uk/images/Deta_Trade_2018-2019/Gridswitch_.pdf

(MK GRID PLUS BLANK INSERT WHITE (95474) are also available https://www.screwfix.com/p/mk-grid-plus-blank-insert-white/95474 and there may be others from other manufactures.)

One can then drill the Blank Modules and install any extra-low voltage connector which will fit in the space available - by either screwing on or securing with epoxy resin.
Thus you can manufacture "Audio" and other Extra-Low Voltage "Custom Modules" to suit yourself and insert them into the plate, as required.

The photo shows some such "Custom Modules" installed in Australian Gang Wall-Plates.

20210413_162242.jpg in the past I have drilled blank plates for custom connector layouts. but recently I have used euro module blank plates to do the same. these I did years ago

if you use full size blank plates dont fit connectors too near the edge as the back box is smaller!! and for anyone else who might like to try and do the same, contactum blank plates have a perfectly flat inside face

The plan is to punch D sized holes in the blank plate so a modular frame isn’t really suitable.

I can make a flat plate blank out of steel if needs be but if there’s an off the shelf product it saves some messing about.

These are standard MK blank plates which I have punched holes in and then painted and had engraved and I’m hoping to achieve something similar with this larger box.

Not trying to promote that particular model but I used to use Adam Hall versions which had a flat plate front to fit on a standard back box

Bit of a long shot, and I make no apologies for not researching the dimensions or reading every single post, but would two standard double blank plates do the job?

I thought about an adaptable box lid but I don’t think it will look right and will have the fixing holes in the wrong place.

I think I might have to make something bespoke.

No they don’t quite fit side by side unfortunately

thinking further about this. I have never seen an 8 way grid blank/cover plate and I cant think why anyone would (yourself excepted of course) have need to use one. so I think you might have to make one or change the back box to two doubles/ how many xlrs do you need to mount?

I did find this on e-bay but as there is only one pic its hard to tell what its based on
