Post Office Scandal

The horrible thing about this scandal is the innocent people that were trying to prove their innocence couldn't do much because Royal Mail held all the data.

I had a friend I met in Cornwall who run the post office in Blisland on the moors just outside Bodmin. He got put away for it.
Lovely fella but everyone thought he was guilty all be it he denied it.

He moved back to Australia. I spoke with my mate Brian who called him to explain what's been going on. I think he just wanted to move on on and forget about it I hope he didn't and gets deserved compensation.

I hope they all get justice

Here she is - Morrisons corporate website.

And again
'...Parishioners at the Church of St Owen near Bedford often used to ask the Rev Paula Vennells about the Post Office after her Sunday morning sermon. As chief executive of the taxpayer-owned organisation for seven years, the part-time curate could expect to be told of its shortcomings...'

One cannot blame her for any of the debacle, she must be great at her job, those directorships at retirement age, must be on £200k per year - A curate to boot. Only 168 hrs in a week !!

Totally agree. What I think is even more unforgiveable is that the RM investigators told the individuals they were the only ones having problems, when they knew full well the problem was widespread. A woman on the radio yesterday made the point that these days they would all know about the others via social media, but in those days there was no way of knowing. I always say that social media is the scourge of modern society but I've got to give it that one.

Been saying for about 10 years that I must try the pub in Blisland, looks stunning.

Mud sticks and all that, hence why this case is so upsetting. There surely needs to be a criminal investigation. 3 (?) ex-postmasters went to their graves with the conviction still hanging over them. People left without jobs, homes etc. Even though they've been cleared, for many of them the damage (mentally, emotionally, financially) has been done.

And I'll say it again, incompetent managers taking zero responsibility and the overall head rewarded with a CBE 'for services to the post office' ?!?

JOKE

It happened to me once in my early twenties.
At the end of the first day I started with a new build plumbing & heating firm, the Forman showed me where the key to the site container with all the materials in was hidden.
That night, the container gets robbed. At least 10 boilers gone, everything expensive & easy to sell went. No sign of a break in & no padlock found.
The foreman actually came out & insinuated that it must of been me.
I was gutted & felt guilty for some reason. It was a real horrible feeling & nothing I could do or say would change his mind.
Anyway, about 9 months later towards the end of the job one of the site labourers who I got friendly with came out & told me that he’d done it.
The thing is, he was the foreman’s nephew!! The foreman was straight as a die & completely trusted his nephew who was a right wrongun actually. I never did say anything but the entire time I knew that foreman, he never trusted me again.

I had tears in my eyes reading about this yesterday. But I'm a soppy git.

I was on a site in Bishops Stortford. Boss told me 3 years work...

Got to work on a Monday morning my plot had the Kitchen stolen... I had thd keys the occupied houses opposite watched these fellas pull up in a van with high viz on and loaded the kitchen into the van. Apparently they were chatting and joking with the neighbours and said it was the wrong kitchen delivered.

I got told the day after that there was no more work.

Yeah I always remember when we got fire lectures at work. The guy used to drift into talking about keeping our buildings secure and said 'if you saw someone walking around in a high vis vest and clipboard, would you question them?' It was a good point actually. I've seen things before about undesirables doing stuff like robbing in plain sight but acting as though they're supposed to be there. Much less suspicious.

Well fancy that....

"Former Post Office chief steps down from other board roles
Paula Vennells leaves Morrisons and Dunelm in wake of legal battle involving 39 sub-postmasters"

"Paula Vennells has stepped down from her non-executive director roles at Wm Morrison and Dunelm in the wake of a legal battle at the Post Office, where she was chief executive until 2019. The former head of the Post Office resigned with immediate effect from the role at Morrisons, which she had held for more than five years. Vennells also left Dunelm on Sunday, where she had been a non-executive director since September 2019. Her decision to leave the posts came in the wake of a legal fight to clear the names of 39 sub-postmasters, whose criminal convictions were quashed last week after what has been described as the biggest miscarriage of justice in recent history. She ran the Post Office from 2012-19."

Vennells was appointed a CBE in the 2019 New Year honours list for services to the Post Office and to charity.

lol at the hypocrisy on here wanting justice and for heads to roll. The same bunch defend the Government over its handing out of contracts, lack of transparency etc.

The PO should be held to the same low standards your hold this Government. Fair is fair.

BBC Business Reports today featured the pending statutory enquiry into the scandle. One of the innocent Post Office employees, Hatjinder Botoy who was jailed for 3 years 3months, seeks the jailing of the 'guilty' Post Office Managers who ever they may be.
I agree and think that they should be jailed for maybe 10 years. (Half will be served).
What about compensation for Hatjinder & his family?,...may be £1,000,000!.
