Hi

I`m looking to build a fence aprox 5’6” high 8M long using 44x20mm landscape battens with 10mm spacing. The posts will be 1.2M apart 600mm down in postcreate.

I know that for 5ft and above 100mm posts are recommended but due to their spacing and that you can see them through the battens I’m hoping to use 75mm.

As I understand it redwood takes treatment better but is weaker than whitewood so should be more resistant to rotting but more likely to break in high winds. The whitewood is stronger, by how much I dont know, so should be less likely to break but less resistant to rotting.

I am having a very difficult time trying to decide which to go for.

Any comments / advice would be very much appreciated.

Well that was a short and straight forward reply.

Would you care the clarify your thinking as to why you came to that choice?

Not on here to post essays but it's what I have used.
