herd immunity for EU 446m population likely to be reached by mid July

I never said EU would achieve herd immunity by mid July

I said they would catch up by mid July because I could see vaccine production would ramp up in the EU, which it is.

The vaccine rates and the statements from healthcare leaders in EU concur with what I said.....so what I said was far from stupid.
I think you need a lie down for a while, it's in the title of the thread YOU posted.

I have to say whilst I am very pleased the UK has done well on its early vaccination rollout, I'm not impressed by brexers on here playing a vaccine one upmanship against the EU, especially given that our fast rollout was only achieved by vaccines being allowed to be exported from the EU.

The UK is now in a good position and I hope the EU catch up quickly and starts to slow the nasty 3rd wave they are experiencing.
"Leading scientists are calling on the Government to remove all coronavirus restrictions and allow people to 'take back control of their own lives' when the 'roadmap' to freedom ends in June."

"The experts say Covid-19 is being turned into a 'mild' disease in Britain, akin to the flu"

Thanks to the 'herd' and the billions handed out to big pharma?

Or was it is just another version of the flu all along?

"The experts say Covid-19 is being turned into a 'mild' disease in Britain, akin to the flu"

You missed a bit off the beginning of that quote "With real-world data showing vaccines reduce the risk of death by 98 per cent and hospitalisations by more than 80 per cent, the experts say Covid-19 is being turned into a 'mild' disease in Britain, akin to the flu"

You're welcome.

Leading scientists

"The 22 signatories include Professors Carl Heneghan and Sunetra Gupta from Oxford University, Emeritus Professor Hugh Pennington from the University of Aberdeen and Professor Robert Dingwall from Nottingham Trent University."

'We are being told, simultaneously, that we have successful vaccines and that major restrictions on everyday life must continue indefinitely. Both propositions cannot be true,' the scientists write. 'We need to give more weight to the data on the actual success of the vaccines.'

The vaccines are a success? Nice find @ellal.

And from the actual letter "Given this, it is time to recognize that, in our substantially vaccinated population, Covid-19 will take its place among the 30 or so respiratory viral diseases with which humans have historically co-existed. This has been explicitly accepted in a number of recent statements by the Chief Medical Officer. For most vaccinated and other low-risk people, Covid-19 is now a mild endemic infection, likely to recur in seasonal waves which renew immunity without significantly stressing the NHS."

The vaccines and the vaccinated will sort things out.

You need to read what you wrote.

That is the thread title to this thread, not a comment I made in a thread....which is what you claimed it was in your post #27.

Please stop making dishonest conflations, I expect that stuff from John the plumber not you.

You are very intelligent, you are better than this.

At the current rate the EU will vaccinate 70% by December so how on earth can they achieve herd immunity by July, even the Uk who are far ahead of EU won't vaccinate 70% till early August.
Just doing some rough maths, they'll need to triple the rate they're vaccinating at.

Once you have the doses the process of sticking needles in arms is fairly easy. Persuading people to have the jabs can be harder though.

IF they've finally gotten a decent supply of vaccines then I don't see why they couldn't. A large part of that increased supply is probably coming from the US which is expecting to have a surplus in the next month.

They will increase the rate but theres no way they achieve herd immunity by July, which was stated by Notch, but who seems to have changed his mind now, something he has history of.

Did he? I see him repeating the claim the EU has made and saying he hopes they do, but that they will? I must have missed it.

I don't know enough to say it's impossible. The EU is bringing more plants online for Pfizer and Moderna, but we've seen issues at all manufacturers whilst scaling up. The US has just relaxed the export controls on some of the key components for vaccine manufacturing, which might also help.

They won't be getting any AZ from India but they seem to have lost interest in it. Our rollout is being slowed by that but our domestic supply is enough to keep going at our slower pace.

Define 'Herd Immunity'.
Is the UK approaching herd immunity with a little over 50% vaccinated.
Herd immunity can also be achieved after infection, not just by vaccination.

Indeed...

And if it's true that so many have been infected as reported, then it may well be that the 'virus' is gradually 'winding down'...

As previous 'viruses' have always done before.

But do we trust the figures this time around when the 'rewards' for big pharma are so great?
